November 14th, 2004-- I'll always remember it as the day I did my first car show shoot for Modern Muscle. Greg is a tough act to follow when it comes to capturing great material for Muscle Car Calendar and Modern Muscle, so I was pretty nervous about it.
So, you can imagine my dismay when I walked into the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center and found all those cars, but with people crawling all over them... they were letting them sit in them, touch them, even breathe on them. Oh no! It was going to be impossible to get decent shots with all these people around. Geez! Maybe, just maybe the people that made their way into the pictures would be good looking women, but with my luck there wouldn't be anything but big fat guys with hair in their ears to block my shots.
It also didn't help that BOTH of my kids were with me. I mean, my son Isaac is great because he's a car guy too, but my daughter Virginia, who will be thirteen in a few months, also went. For reasons I can't begin to understand, Virginia doesn't like anything. Every car we looked at was "gay" in her not-so-humble opinion. Her only interest in cars is that she'll be old enough to drive in four years, and the only cars she likes are ones we could never afford or ones that we would never allow to sit in our driveway.
Thankfully, I figured out how to tune her commentary completely out after my first few shots. I hope you all like the shots!
